Part 1: Overview of Trim, Clipper Work & Setting the Topline
Turning one breed of dog into another is one of Pina’s favorite haircuts. And she’s very talented at it. She’s won awards across the country at grooming competitions doing this type of trim.

In this lesson for Learn2GroomDogs, Pina talks about how to apply the standard of the Kerry Blue to a Poodle. She uses the AKC written breed standard as a guide.

Pina says, ‘When you are looking for a dog for a mixed breed class in the grooming contest arena – the better you know the standards of all breeds, the easier it will be to see dogs that could easily have the another breeds standard applied to it. By doing this correctly, you are turning it into another breed all together.’

Because of Pina’s vast knowledge of standards, she can do this very easily. The dog you are looking at may not perfectly fit into the other breed’s standard. That’s okay. If you have hair, you can build it. You can sculpt it.

In this lesson she is going to work on this dog section by section, applying the standards as she goes. Pina reads small sections from the AKC book and then shows you how she applies what is written to the dog as she sets the haircut.

This is an amazing lesson, one not to miss by any serious pet stylists looking to take their grooming skills into the certification or contest ring.
