Award-winning pet stylist, Lindsey Dicken knows this complicated Poodle trim well. She has presented this trim in the AKC conformation show ring and won her class in the 2011 World Grooming Championship in Kortrijk, Belgium in this same trim.
In this lesson, she is working with a 10-month-old Poodle puppy. While this pup is no stranger to the show ring, she is due to get changed over to her adult haircut. Lindsey sets the trim on camera just for you. (You may have no idea how gutsy this move is but Lindsey pulls it off with confidence!)
Once the whole trim is set, you can go back and nitpick – but be careful! You need to know when to quit. Puppy coat is always a challenge. It’s sparse and it can be straggly. You need to know which battles to pick with the hair – and which ones to let go.
If you have never tried to set an English Saddle Trim on a Poodle, this is a fabulous lesson. Even though this puppy is transitioning into an adult show trim, the principles will be the same on all Poodles – regardless of their age – sporting this style.
In this lesson, you will learn:
- where to place the lines for this hairstyle.
- how to balance the rear bracelets.
- how to shape bracelets to accentuate balance and conformation.
- what “Area 76” is and how you address it.
- how many bands to place in a show puppy topknot.
