Join award winning pet stylist, Lindsey Dicken as she demonstrates how to do a show groom on a Gordon Setter. In this lesson, Lindsey talks about the differences between Setters. All of them excel in the field while being elegant in the show ring. Yet, there are differences other than coat color.
On the main jacket, a show coat on a Gordon setter is never clipped. Everything about the dog is very natural. One piece flows into the other. Lindsey does an excellent job explaining every step of the grooming process, from trimming the feet to getting that gorgeous soft expression on that elegant face.
Lindsey says this is one of her favorite types of Sporting breeds to groom. Typically, they’re very pretty, well-behaved, and have mellow attitudes. The icing on the cake is that they have one of the easier Sporting coats to card.
If you are a competitive stylist, headed toward certification testing, or the conformation show ring, this is definitely a lesson you want to catch. Even if you don’t hit the show circuit, you can still learn how to make this breed look gorgeous by using the proper grooming techniques. Lindsey will show you how in a way that anyone can understand.
In this lesson, you will learn:
- how to hold an undercoat rake to minimize damage to the skin and coat.
- how to clear the outer thigh of a Gordon Setter.
- a great visual reference using a can of paint.
- where to set the curtain of hair on the rear leg.
- how to shape the top of the head on a Gordon Setter.
