Award winning pet stylist, Lisa Leady, has been involved with grooming and showing dogs her entire life. In this lesson, she shows you how to trim an older Petit Basset Griffon Vendéen. This breed is supposed to look tousled and messy. If this dog were groomed to breed standards, it would be handstripped to get that look.
This Petit Basset Griffon Vendéen is an older girl. She has lost a lot of her coat texture due to age. Lisa opts to keep the grooming simpler and quicker for this dog. She uses clippers and thinners to mimic the look of handstripping. As she works over the dog, she is highly aware of the breed standard. The standard is her guide to groom this pet PBGV correctly using pet grooming techniques. In a very short amount of time, Lisa is able to groom this senior pet while beautifully retaining the essence of the breed.
In this video you will learn:
- Why this breed is so easy to groom.
- What tools make this trim go super-fast.
- Key traits to bring out from the breed standard.
- How notto create a ‘chicken leg’.
- How to work with the coat so you get a messy look that isn’t choppy.
